I have been driving my Ford Focus Econetic diesel Estate since late 2008 and achieve a over 55 mpg with a daily journey that involves crawling through 'school run' traffic as well as some dual carriageway.

The space in my estate is better than in a Mondeo that I used to have and I wouldn't go back to another saloon.

I suggest M Matthews asks for a test drive of a Focus Econetic estate before being so dismissive about small estate cars.

Alternatively he could just drive a petrol vehicle and waste twice as much fuel!

In reply to M Matthews - do check the actual vehicles 'in the flesh' we were surprised by the boot space in the Fabia Estate. It has served our family very well. We thought we would buy a roof-box for the odd time when we needed to carry more, but we still haven't needed to buy one.

Like the comments on the MPV list, these cars are small estate cars and not suitbale for family and, say, a load of camping gear. The lists need to give the greenest cars of a certain size and I want to know what is the greenest car out of those similar in size to a Mondeo, 406, Laguna, A4 etc. The lists don't work for readers if you just list the smallest 5 cars that may qualify as an estate, MPV etc.
