Gilles Michel, the Executive Vice President of Citroen has been had his contribution to the car industry recognised by being awarded the European GreenFleet’s “Outstanding Achievement” Award for 2008. The event, in its first year, took place on World Environment Day, at the HUSA President Park Hotel in Brussels, and recognises the efforts made by private and public sector organisations to decrease the environmental effect of motoring across Europe.
Colin Boyton, of GreenFleet, said, “We felt that Mr Michel was a deserved winner of this Award, due to the key strategies he has overseen in the development of different technologies within Citroen. As a direct result of this, Citroen has won our Car Manufacturer of the Year Award for the last two years, here in the UK. This really is some achievement, considering the opposition.”
Mr Michel was applauded for his part in the introduction of Citroen’s Stop and Start system, which is currently available on C2 and C3 models. This technology stops the engine when a car is stationary and starts it again when pressure is removed from the brake pedal, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 15%.
Citroen provides an array of fuel efficient and elegant cars, with 24 models returning CO2 emissions of 120g/km or less. The agile C1 city car emits just 108g/km CO2 and can achieve up to 74.2mpg, whilst the family-sized C4 with EGS produces only 120g/km of CO2.
Citroen is famous for its ongoing commitment to the development of environmentally conscious technology, with concept cars such as the eco-friendly C-Cactus, shortly to be making its UK entrance at the 2008 British Motor Show. With its intelligent diesel hybrid engine and minimalist design, this innovative concept is made from recycled materials and highlights the dedication Citroen has towards the design of greener cars.
