San Jose shows the way

If you’re wondering how electric car recharging stations can come to fruition then take a look at San Jose, California, where an electric car/plug-in network has been established.

Coulomb Technologies have placed 100V outlets on city streets. The idea is that registered subscribers will be allowed to use the charging stations in the future, although the concept has been criticised with electric charging and battery swap stations planned.

Richard Lowenthal, CEO of Coulomb Technologies, believes his company is listening to demand from car manufacturers. Lowenthal is the former mayor of Cupertino in California and has placed himself on the waiting list for a Tesla Roadster.

Perhaps this can be seen as the first step towards setting up recharging stations, which in turn should encourage manufacturers to create more electric cars as they become more viable and demand increases.
