The events are over for another year as the British International Motor Show closed its doors at the London ExCeL on Sunday. However, while the culmination of the event is tinged with sadness, organisers have hailed the ten day event a tremendous success – particularly thanks to the green theme.
Paul Everitt, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ chief executive, said: “The 2008 show has been a great success and a superb showcase of the strength of the British motor industry.
“The green theme which has run throughout the show has highlighted the continued advances the industry is making to reduce new car emissions further and has informed visitors of their low carbon vehicle choices for today and the future.”
Sales and leads are said to be well up from the 2006 show, despite the challenging economic climate. In particular, some of the manufacturers of green vehicles were celebrating success with Honda reporting a 17 per cent increase and Peugeot claiming the brand was up 29 per cent on lead generations for brochures and test drives.
Now attentions will turn to the next event – to be held in two years time.
“We’re already taking enquiries from exhibitors looking for bigger stands at the 2010 show,” said imie marketing director, Kirsty Perkinson. “We’re looking forward to starting planning for another great exhibition.”
