It’s nearly time for new car registrations to be launched in the UK and car manufacturers are happily boasting of their vehicles’ credentials ahead of their launch. The focus is unsurprisingly being placed on the greener aspects of a car’s performance – and the new Peugeot 407 is no exception.
There are a number of exterior and interior enhancements for the 407 in the 2009 model year including a new SR model and a new RT5 satellite navigation system. However, the highlight is the inclusion of a new HDi 140 diesel engine that produces just 150g/km of carbon dioxide (CO2).
In fact, there is a choice of four- and six-cylinder engines each featuring cutting edge technology. Among them is an updated 2.0 HDi 140 engine with a six-speed manual gearbox – which boasts impressive fuel economy at 49.5mpg. This engine complies with anticipated future Euro 5 standards, showcasing Peugeot’s commitment to achieving the best possible environmental performance.
In addition, the vehicle has an additive enhanced diesel particulate filter. All Peugeot engines dating back to 1998 can also operate on B30 (that is a 30 per cent mixture of bio-diesel). It is expected that a 2.0 litre Bioflex engine will be introduced in November this year with the ability to operate on E85 fuel.
