Honda delivers FCX Clarity to first cusotmers

Jamie Lee Curtis and her FCX Clarity

Zero emissions, hydrogen fuel cell cars now on the road in the U.S.

The first customers have taken delivery of their zero emission cars in California. Up to 200 customers will begin leasing the fuel cell vehicles in the United States and Japan over the next three years.

Film director Ron Yerxa was the first customer to get the keys to an FCX Clarity, followed by actress Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband, Christopher Guest.

“I really wasn’t expecting it to be so luxurious,” said Curtis. “I love the interior layout, design and access to controls. It is user friendly and very modern.”

The FCX Clarity is Honda’s next generation, hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle. Driven by an electric motor that runs on electricity generated by a fuel cell, the car’s only emissions are heat and water. Its fuel efficiency is three times that of a modern petrol engine.

I like it when celebs want to go green for whatever reason (because it is cool or in or whatever), because the effect is that more people become aware of alternative technology and even if it may be an attempt to emulate cool, more people adopt that alternative technology.

Am anxiously awaiting for buying a Honda Clarity and looking forward for fuel stations supplying Hydrogen fuel for it near to my house. Congestion Charge Free is a valid idea and could be a motivation factor. Want to see it on roads well before 2012. C’mon England.

Heres a thought all/most current petrol engines can run on hydrogen with an engine re-map and new tank, so keep the car you have and dont create a bigger carbon foot print by buying a new one.
