New website fills empty cab seats

A new, free service from website, EmptyCabs.com could prove popular with cabbies and commuters alike. The website aims to reduce carbon emissions and increase the efficent use of taxi’s by pairing up available taxis with nearby passengers. It is simply a message board where anyone looking to book a taxi, to the airport for example, can be put in touch with a cab that may be passing nearby on its way to pick up from that airport.

On many occasions, one half of long distance taxi journeys are made with the car empty, so by putting the two parties in touch, the drivers are able to take a return passenger as well. The cabbie then recoups some of their rising fuel costs and the lucky passenger can receive a reduced fare while also irradicating the need for an additional two driven journeys.

An environmental and money-saving winner, EmptyCabs.com looks set to take off.
