Support for hydrogen power boost

ITM's hydrogen-powered carEarlier this week we told you how the European Parliament had adopted a legislative report on hydrogen powered vehicles. Now the decision has received widespread support among the motoring industry.

, ’s largest electrolyser and fuel cell company, with a research and manufacturing facility in Sheffield, welcomed the move as it believes it will simplify type approval for powered vehicles and will help to speed up the introduction of non-polluting cars across .

The company has started test production on a hydrogen home refuelling station, which will allow homeowners to produce their own hydrogen fuel simply and cheaply – therefore helping to overcome the lack of refuelling infrastructure across the UK.

The home refuelling station relies on water and electricity to make hydrogen. With an overnight charge it can produce enough hydrogen for its converted Ford Focus to complete a typical daily commuting journey – with the option to switch back to petrol for longer trips.

Speaking about the Parliamentary decision, ITM Power’s CEO Jim Heathcote commented: “This is welcome news and shows that understand the significant advances that hydrogen-powered vehicles can make in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.”

We need to look at using alternative power sources for industry and vehicles, fossil fuel petrol and diesel are only a buy product of oil production which makes plastics, from containers to clothing. A cleaner greener fuel source such as Hydrogen would be very good in basic emmisions but a study needs to be done in so much as will this lead to more rainfall from the emmisions of these vehicles. I am a believer in cleaner greener fuel but in this country it doesnt matter how much it costs if you got a fuel station for your home you would have to be licensed at an intial cost, until the govrment jumped on the band wagon and overpriced it for financial stability, still costing you.

I’d be more interested in understanding why anyone would not want to produce a “clean” fuel in their own home that costs less than deisel or petroleum….the sooner this company makes hydrogen available to all the sooner we can start saving money with the benefit of produsing water as the waste gas…ITS A “NO BRAINER”

This is a great advance to have hydrogen infrastructure available which allows convenient use of hydrogen power in a cost effective way. No emissions and reducing dependancy on fossil fuels.

Cleaner, greener and cost effective. It is down to governments to embrace these positive changes and give every assistance.

Would love to have a hydrogen powered car that can be topped up at home.
