Following Mazda Motor Corporations commitment to improve fuel economy across its range by 30 percent as part of its Sustainable Zoom-Zoom strategy, the Japanese manufacturer has announced three new technological developments due shortly.
The first innovation is the Mazda Smart Idle Stop System or SISS for short, which automatically turns off the engine when idle and starts up again once required. Mazda claim this will result in a 9 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and is unique compared to other similar competitor systems, resulting in the SISS starting almost twice as fast. The SISS system will first be seen in UK at some point in early 2009.
A cleaner MZR-CD 2.2 litre Turbo Diesel is the next innovation announced by Mazda and will be available from 2009. Featuring improved torque and 185 PS of power, the Mazda will also be cleaner and more fuel efficient than previous models.
Finally, the firm has reduced the weight of its plastic resins by 20 to 30 percent without compromising on rigidity and strength, and is used in the new Mazda2 and Mazda6 to reduce weight and improve fuel-efficiency. Mazda hope to use this innovation when using plastic moulding where ever possible in the future.
