A brilliant further development of the hybrid notion. The Prius has always been only a partial success story, though, at least in European eyes, because, hey, why all this flutter for a car that does only 65 mpg or so?

Using the first Citroen AX diesel over its first 100k miles, I got a lifetime 71.4 mpg, mainly from 15-mile commutes, and that was in the '90s! OK, it was a small light car, and I drive for efficiency, but the point is made, I think.

But the prospect of home-charging using renewable electricity, from Good Energy, say, (our supplier) sounds really tasty to me. And only using the hydrocarbon fuel for longer trips is attractive (though 25 km sounds rather modest - battery weight vs performance, I suppose).

I wish it every success.
