Electric sports car manufacturer, Tesla has agreed a deal worth around $250 million which will see San Jose become the new base of the manufacturer of their Model S, luxury sedan. The model is predicted to retail for around £33,000 and could be on the road by 2010 the BBC report. The Model S will be a five-person, luxury car with a range of 240 miles per battery charge, Cnet.com report.
Tesla’s famous two-seater Roadster model (pictured) is already in production in the UK-based Lotus plant. Retailing for around £61,000, waiting lists are in place to take orders.
Tesla boss Ze’ev Drori told the BBC, “this is proof the time has come for the electric car.”
Initially Tesla aim to produce 15,000 models a year of their new car.
