London borough offers bicycles to give up cars

Islington borough council is offering bicycles for anyone willing to give back their parking permit in a bid to reduce the borough’s CO2 emissions.

The Telegraph reports that Islington council is offering £200 towards the cost of a bicycle, in the hope that the borough’s residents will give up their cars.

So far it is reported that 240 people have taken up on the councils offer.

They include Niaz Jaumdally, who got rid of his Honda Concerto in exchange for a new bicycle.

“It was just sitting outside in the road,” he told the national newspaper. “It was expensive to run, costing £500 to insure and there was the price of the permit as well.”
