Finnish customers made to wait

How many of us have made several trips to the shops at Christmas time only to find out that the present we crave to buy for a loved one, usually this year’s biggest-selling toy for our children, is sold out?

Well this year’s hot commodity in Finland isn’t a toy – it’s a whole range of cars: green cars to be precise. The demand for environmentally friendly vehicles has surprised the automotive industry to such an extent that customers are often forced to wait months to get behind the wheel of a new car.

The emphasis is on motor size and fuel efficiency when Finnish customers shop around and even company cars in the country are becoming greener as companies issue emission caps on their vehicles.

The result is that much like in Australia, where demand for the likes of the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid cars has outstripped supply, car manufacturers are being forced to branch into the green car sector. Even though small cars don’t offer the same returns for the companies, they are being left with no choice but to meet this rapidly expanding consumer surge.

Have you tried to buy a green car and found that it was not currently available? Leave a comment and tell us about your experiences below.
