After the collapse of numerous investment banks and a Government bailout bill that has proved extremely controversial, the US economy is in desperate need of a boost – and it may get one, thanks to green cars.
According to a study by the US Conference of Mayors, the US economy could generate 4.2 million new “green” jobs over the next 30 years – that will be around 10 per cent of all new jobs created.
Research suggested that the US now has around 750,000 green jobs, which generally put the focus on renewable energy and providing suitable engineering, legal and research support – which makes up just 0.5 per cent of all jobs in the country. So if proved correct, the study’s findings would equate to a substantial increase.
The forecast is based on the assumption that 40 per cent of electricity generated in the US by 2038 will come from alternative fuels, whether they be wind, hydro, biomass, solar or geo-thermal.
It also makes the assumption that 30 per cent of fuel used in cars and light trucks will come from alternatives to petroleum and diesel clearly indicating that green cars such as hybrids, electric and fuel cell vehicles, are the keys to resurgence in the US economy.
