Electric cars should be the focus

It seems that barely a day passes here at thegreencarwebsite.co.uk without hearing of a new green car innovation. Whether it’s a hybrid, an electric, a fuel cell, a natural gas car, a solar powered car or even a car powered by algae, new innovations are coming thick and fast – but which of these ideas should the manufacturers be focusing on?

According to the head of Johnson Control Inc’s hybrid car battery business Alex Molinaroli, the solution is simple – electric cars, must take the spotlight.

He believes that automakers will find it is too expensive to continually invest in a wide range of clean car technologies and that efforts should be focused on bringing electric cars to the masses.

According to Mr Molinaroli fuel cells are not the future as the “real strategic efforts” are being focused on the . With the hybrid electric Toyota Prius already proving a huge hit with customers concerned about greenhouse gas emissions and eager to drive down fuel costs, it seems that the potential of electric cars is already starting to be enjoyed.

Nevertheless, Mr Molinaroli did warn that all vehicles, including those that are fuel-efficient, are likely to continue to struggle if the present financial climate continues.

has been developed batteries for hybrid electric cars for Daimler AG’s Mercedes S-class mild hybrid luxury estate car, which is scheduled to be released in 2009.
