There are celebrations in Norway as the European expansion of electric cars continues with news that Electrovaya will be partnering with Tata Motors and Miljø Grenland/Innovasjon.
The companies will be using Electrovaya’s lithium-ion super-polymer battery technology and the first vehicle produced by the group will be the Indica electric vehicle, which will be based on Tata’s Indica and is due to be launched in Europe in 2009.
The Indica electric vehicle will have some impressive statistics including the ability to carry four people at a time and a predicted range up to 124 miles. Acceleration will also be impressive compared to other electric cars in the sector as the vehicle should achieve 60kph in less than 10 seconds.
Tata Motors’ UK subsidiary, Tata Motors European Technical Centre plc, is said to have acquired a 50.3 per cent stake in Miljø for NOK 12 million. Electrovaya meanwhile will receive equity in Miljø, along with a technology license fee and a royalty based on the value of its lithium-ion batteries used in the electric cars.
