Record-breaking car joins rental fleet

The push for green cars continues to affect all aspects of the motoring industry with the UK Group showing its commitment to fuel efficient cars with the addition of the to its national fleet.

The rental car company will be adding both the hatchback HDi 90 and the 110bhp diesel models – the latter of which is the current world record holder for the highest average fuel consumption of 90.75mpg on a journey.

Christian Stein, marketing director at Peugeot, believes the record-breaking vehicle will be the perfect fit for the rental sector.

“Earlier this year in Australia, John and Helen Taylor drove a Peugeot 308 HDi 110 hatchback around the coast of Australia establishing a Guinness world record by recording an impressive 1192 miles on just 60 litres of diesel fuel, with an average fuel consumption of 90.75 mpg over 9,062 miles,” he said.

“This reinforces the fact that the 308 is certainly very fuel efficient and the ideal environmentally friendly car to have on Europcar’s fleet. The fleet ensures customers will benefit from a car that offers outstanding performance with style, combined with highly impressive environmental credentials.”

Europcar was the first company to include carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by group to help its customers make environmentally informed decisions and believes the 308′s high efficiency coupled with low emissions (just 120g/km) means it will make a cost-effective option for customers.

Tim Bailey, Fleet Director of Europcar UK Group comments, “As a highly innovative and eco-friendly vehicle, the 308 fits perfectly into Europcar’s focus of helping customers drive efficiently while reducing CO2 emissions and the expense on their pockets. In fact, in our own economy run conducted around the M25, the 308 HDi 90 achieved an impressive 95.9 mpg.”
