Just a day after telling you how Europcar has extended its own commitment to green cars (which you can read about here) with the arrival of the Peugeot 308 among its fleet, another car hire company has committed to a greener future.
New website VroomVroomVroom.com (yes, that’s three Vrooms!) is a one-stop shop for online car rentals that works as an aggregator similar to many price comparison websites – you simply enter your travel dates and destination and it will search for the best rental deal it can find. However, this website has a greener vibe because the company will also pay to neutralise the carbon your vehicle emits.
Vroom has a partnership with CarbonNeutral which works under the premise that a gallon of petrol spews approximately 20lbs of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. By then calculating the distance driven and the fuel efficiency of the rental car it can determine how much needs to be paid to offset the emissions.
Of course Vroom is not a car hire company in its own right – it simply finds the best deals from big name companies such as Avis, Budget, Hertz and Alamo, many of which have recently moved to provide more fuel-efficient vehicles such as the Toyota Prius in their stock.
