Chauffeur company goes green

On paper it would appear that a chauffeur company and green cars are not meant to mix – the image of gas guzzling limousines living large. However, one company has other ideas.

Ecochauffeur is an offshoot of established online chauffeur company iChauffeur. It was launched in early 2006 to fill a void in the industry and set its sights on leading the way with hybrid and alternatively fuelled vehicles.

The company uses GS 450h SE-L Hybrids rather than the industry-standard Mercedes Benz and BMW vehicles. The cars average around 25mpg, which make them approximately 25 per cent more cost-effective on fuel and 40 per cent more cost-effective on maintenance.

Indeed EcoChauffeur has also invested in carbon offsetting schemes through Climate Care and has trained its chauffeurs in environmentally friendly driving techniques.

Amazingly, EcoChauffeur is not alone with an environmentally friendly fleet as London’s Pink Express began using the Toyota Prius in its passenger car fleet in 2006 and Fly Wheels also includes the Prius among its list of vehicles. East London based Chauffeur First also added up to 25 Lexus vehicles to its fleet last year.

So it seems times are changing in the chauffeur sector. If you fancy booking a green chauffeur car for yourself, check out the EcoChauffeur website, here.
