Propane fuelling sites to increase

Owners of fleet vehicles looking to go green have received a boost in the USA as CleanFUEL USA and ConocoPhillips signed a three-year agreement to advance propane infrastructure for the US transportation fuel industry.

The terms of the agreement allow the two companies to provide resources to install and supply propane fuel pumps for commercial fleet fuel users. The fuelling stations will be installed at fleet owner sites, and may also be made available nationwide at select ConocoPhillips’ branded stations – including Conoco, Phillips 66 and 76 stations.

According to the Department of Energy there are more than 270,000 propane vehicles in the USA and more than 10 million worldwide. The majority are used in fleets such as light and heavy duty trucks, police cars, taxicabs and buses. They are also known as liquefied petroleum gas – LPG – vehicles.

Compared to conventional vehicles, propane powered vehicles can offer significant savings in terms of fuel economy and in the reduction of harmful emissions and carbon dioxide.
