Designer proclaimed for idea of the year

Last week we told you about Gordon Murray, mastermind behind the F1 McLaren Mercedes, committing to green cars with this latest design the T.25. Now, Mr Murray has been rewarded for his efforts.
At Autocar’s annual awards ceremony his radical T.25 design scooped the ‘idea of the year’ accolade for representing a new type and class of personal transport vehicle.
Speaking about the design, Autocar’s editor Chas Hallett said: “Gordon Murray is looking to completely reinvent the cars that we buy and the way they are made. And from what we’ve seen it doesn’t get a much better idea than that.”
The design includes a separate body and chassis assembly which can be used for many new powertrains, fuels and body styles with the prototype to be built in 2009. The vehicle, if successful, should achieve massive reductions in manufacturing, running and lifecycle carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
“Innovation is only part of a process,” said Gordon Murray. “Our manufacturing process is a complete re-think on the way we build cars and will totally transform automobile production. We believe that the T.25 architecture and manufacturing process combined will represent the biggest step forward in our automotive world since the model T Ford, exactly 100 years ago.”
