Corporation backs electric cars

There has been a significant boost for the green car sector in booming Japan where the Nikkei reports that Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) will add around 300 new electric cars to its fleet.
The vehicles, which will be used by sales personnel, will be leased mainly from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. The electric car of choice will be the iMiEV, which you can read more about here, as the vehicle is set to go into mass production next summer.
TEPCO plans to continue to add electric cars to its fleet and in the fiscal year 2010 hopes to bring its total number to around 3,000 - that’s 40 per cent of its total sales fleet.
The vehicles will be boosted by proprietary charging equipment which will be installed at its offices and other locations - allowing the iMiEV to achieve its 160km on a single charge while driving down carbon dioxide emissions.
The commitment from TEPCO represents the largest corporate rollout of electric cars at any one time.
