Some of the latest exciting news coming out of the LA International Auto Show revolves around Korean car giant Kia and their Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) programme.
The all new Kia Borrego FCEV, a sporty compact SUV, has been unveiled with several innovations on Kia’s previous FCEV study the Sportage FCEV.
Fuel cell output, maximum speed, range, and acceleration have all taken a leap forward in comparison to the Sportage FCEV, with tests giving a range of 426 miles, and an improved economy of 54 mpg.
Understandably Kia are rightly proud and are hailing this as a major breakthrough
“Entering this new phase of our program is really exciting,” said Dr. Hyun Soon Lee, president of research and development for the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group.
“Now we will be able to build fuel cell electric vehicles in higher volumes and lower cost for fleet testing and the latest Borrego FCEV drives us closer to making fuel cell vehicles available for consumers.”
It remains to be seen when Kia decides to take the plunge and start to consider fuel cell vehicle manufacture.
Why not tell us what you think of these new developments?
