If any further proof were needed on how environmental issues are affecting the automotive industry, then just take a look at Porsche’s recent actions.
The manufacturer of some of the most famous super cars in the world has taken a greener stance to vehicle production with the Porsche Executive Board approving the production of a Cayenne SUV equipped with a diesel engine. The decision it states is due to a change in legal regulations, particularly in Europe, which now result in tax incentives for vehicles with diesel engines.
The Cayenne will now be equipped with a 3.0 litre V6 turbo-diesel engine with 240hp. The average consumption of the Cayenne Diesel is now 25mpg with carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions at 244g/km.
Indeed Porsche is also said to be working on another Cayenne variant, this time with hybrid drive that uses less than nine litres of fuel per 100km travelled.
All of these changes will be made despite the Cayenne enjoying relative success. During the last financial year, 45,478 units were sold – more than ever before.
