Drivers in London could receive free driving time with a pay-as-you –go car club under a new scheme back by Boris Johnson.

The London Mayor approved the Car Crunch London initiative to reward those who can prove they have recently sold their car by offering them £250 worth of driving time with car club, Streetcar, which usually charges £3.95 per hour for the use of one of its motors, the Daily Mail reports.

In a bid to get 100,000 cars off London’s roads before the 2012 Olympic games come to the city, motorists can qualify for the scheme is they show their vehicle registration  document to prove they have sold their vehicle.

Boris Johnson told the newspaper: “Car clubs are a fantastic way for Londoners to reduce their motoring costs and help cut carbon emissions in the capital.”

With around 1,000 Streetcars and vans in London and another 500 are expected to be added in the next 12 months, Streetcar offer affordable and flexible approach to motoring.
