Japan aims to boost green sector

When it comes to green cars Japan has been a world leader with the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid models setting the standard for the motoring industry. However, Japan’s commitment to all things green will not end there.

According to a report in the Nikkei newspaper, the Japanese government will create potentially thousands of new jobs through the promotion of energy saving products and other environmentally friendly technologies.

The government will aim to create 2.2 million new jobs and expand the market for green products to about $1.1 trillion by 2015.

No specific details were supplied in the report, nor were any specific sources quoted, but the newspaper did speculate that the plan is likely to include incentives to encourage consumers to buy electric cars and other energy efficient appliances. The Nikkei also suggested that loans to companies that invest in environmentally friendly and energy efficient fields may be included in the plans.

Update: Japan has now announced that it will aim to expand the green business market with the creation of up to one million jobs and measures including zero-interest loans.
