Its been known for some time that Ford would be showcasing its Fusion Hybrid model at this year’s North American International Auto Show, but little was known about its promise to unveil its green pledge.
Yet in its presentation to the media Ford outlined its plans with great clarity highlighting a new corporate strategy with a clear focus on consumers’ needs and fuel efficiency.
Ford stated that its team around the world is working closer than ever to deliver what customers want and value more quickly, and stated that it is making progress with electric powered vehicles.
Though the company did not unveil any new cars, the Fusion Hybrid aside, at this year’s show, it is attempting to put a new spin on some classics including the Ford Fiesta, a huge hit throughout Europe, which the company hopes will be a success in North America this summer.
Ford also unveiled an aggressive green strategy. This included a pledge to introduce a new battery commercial van in 2010, a new electric small car in 2011 and four next-generation hybrid vehicles, including a plug-in hybrid, by 2012.
Speaking about the plans, Ford’s group vice president of Global Product Development Derrick Kuzak, said that a growing number of customers want that kind of choice and that the company wants to be in a position to deliver across a number of vehicle categories.
