Better Place arrives in Canada

From Israel to Denmark, Australia to California, and now Hawaii to… Canada. Better Place is once again making its mark by helping to bring an electric car network to the Canadian province of Ontario which is expected to act as a model for the entire country.

Better Place will establish its Canadian head office in the province, which is one of the largest car producing regions of North America. There it will build an electric vehicle demonstration and education centre that will help to get electric cars up and running on Ontario’s roads. In return the province will conduct an extensive study into ways to speed up the introduction of electric cars which is expected to be released in May this year.

Using the traditional Better Place model, the company will install a network of charge spots and battery exchange stations while sourcing renewable energy to power the network to help create a zero emission solution to grid transportation.

Charge spots will be installed in parking spaces at home, at work and at retail locations. The idea is that drivers can use these charge spots to top up their vehicles. Those that need to travel longer distances can pull into a battery exchange station and swap a depleted battery for a fresh one.

So where is the next stop for Better Place? Well, it could be Japan – the Ministry of the Environment in the country has invited Better Place to participate in a major electric car project.
