Troubled Tesla heading to the Gulf?

Electric car company Tesla Motors has had a rough ride in recent months, but now it may be enjoying some good news at last as reports suggest it is in talks which would lead to the sale of its vehicles in the United Arab Emirates.

According to Green Prophet, the Tesla Roadster is being considered for everything from electric car racing to rental cars in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar. The vehicle has attracted attention due to its impressive statistics – it can race from 0-60mph in under four seconds, has a range of around 250 miles and is fully charged in just three hours.

Simon Rochefort, the company’s European sales and marketing director, says that talks are under way with Gold Green Abu Dhabi and Gold Green Dubai that would allow the companies to import the vehicles into the UAE. If successful the cars could be made available within the next few years.

The Dubai project hopes to offer Tesla Roadsters as options with thousands of flats that will be sold on an energy independent island that is under construction on the Persian Gulf. There are also considerations for using them as a rental fleet and as part of a fleet of taxis.

Reports suggest that there are further talks being held with groups in Dubai and Qatar as they bid to create the world’s first electric sports car championships.
