As the auto industry adjusts to changing consumer needs, the new concepts are arriving thick and fast. The latest to be announced is the Nissan Qazana, which is considered a smaller brother of the Qashqai crossover.
Though Nissan has announced that the car is coming – and that it will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show – it has not provided too many details about its latest concept. So far all we know is that it will become a production car in 2010 and will be manufactured at the UK’s Sunderland factory.
It will retain five doors and will take over from the Micra which will no longer be built at the Sunderland plant from 2010. The move will safeguard around 1,100 jobs.
According to Nissan the car has been designed and developed in the UK and is the result of around £57 million of investment. Trevor Mann, the manufacturing senior vice president, said that the Qazana helps secure a long and positive future for the plant and will be a unique and exciting car.
We’ll bring you more details about the Qazana, including its retail price and fuel economy figures as soon as we have them.
