Has a technical glitch unearthed a secret about a green car manufacturer heading to the USA?
Writers for the Earth2Tech website logged into their accounts to see when the Toyota Prius plug-in would be available as part of the City CarShare scheme in San Francisco. What they discovered however, was a list of cars that would be made available as part of the “green vehicle showcase” including the Think EV.
What is unusual about the Think EV being on the list is that the Norwegian manufacturer is not currently selling its vehicles in the USA. However, it had been planning to offer its first vehicles as part of city fleets.
The website then contacted a City CarShare spokesperson to query the inclusion of the vehicle. However, she explained that it was little more than a technical glitch that exposed the backend database and that City CarShare does not currently have a Think EV in its possession. According to the reports, it had one several years ago, when Ford made them for the US market, but that stopped when the line was recalled. However, the spokesperson did add that the scheme was considering a number of additional plug-in hybrids and electrics beyond those already announced.
Apparently the website was adjusted just a couple of hours later to show only the plug-in Prius.
Nevertheless, Think was expected to bring its vehicles to the USA later this year after the company formed a 50-50 joint venture called Think North America with Kleiner Perkins and RockPort Capital Partners before it ran into financial strife.
