Yesterday my colleague Richard Lawton informed you about General Motors unveiling the new Vauxhall Ampera at the Geneva Motor Show – and now GM Europe is at it again with the debut of the Chevrolet Spark.
The Spark is a mini-car but despite its diminutive size it is packed with features. It has newly developed all-aluminium 1.0 litre and 1.2 litre petroleum engines which are capable of generating 66hp/49kW and 78hp/58kW respectively. Its engines are Euro-5 compliant and are mated with a five-speed manual gearbox. The 1.2 litre engine is expected to deliver acceleration from 0-62mph in 12.4 seconds.
According to GM, the Spark has a level of running refinement and noise, vibration harshness more typical of a larger vehicle. This includes a three-level noise suppression programme that is focused on effective insulation in the floor as well as the front bulkhead and inner body panels. The vehicle will also offer electronic stability control among its options.
The fuel economy figures of the Chevrolet Spark are expected to be below 47mpg with CO2 emissions of less than 120g/km.
