According to a 2008 ranking by Forbes magazine, Atlanta has some of the worst traffic among the largest 75 cities in America. On average commuters spend nearly 60 hours on the road every year with 13 per cent of Atlanta commuters spending more than an average of one hour to get to work.
However, now Enterprise-Rent-A-Car is attempting to address this issue.
The car hire company will be expanding its Rideshare services in the metro area to offer environmental benefits and a cost-saving transport alternative.
According to Dan Miller, vice president and general manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Atlanta, ridesharing helps to alleviate traffic congestion and parking problems and also reduces commuter times and costs related to driving to work.
Over the next year, Enterprise hopes to double its fleet of vans in the greater Atlanta area creating a van-pooling facility which would be the equivalent of taking 2,200 cars off the road.
Currently, Enterprise transports more than 25,000 riders a day nationwide as part of its van-pooling solutions. Typically seven-15 co-workers ride together for one low monthly rate. Enterprise provides a late model that is well equipped and includes features such as maintenance, roadside assistance and insurance.
To further boost its environmental offering, the company announced four “green branches” in Atlanta where the fleets have a higher concentration of hybrids, electric and other fuel efficient models with an average fuel efficiency rating of at least 28mpg. Recently, Enterprise added a number of new hybrids to these locations bringing its total offering to 230 hybrids across the Atlanta area.
