The Adelaide 500 may be under way in Australia, but South Australia’s Premier Mike Rann has already set his sights on another motoring race – one with a distinctly greener outlook.
The Global Green Challenge has evolved from the success of the World Solar Challenge and will be run from Darwin to Adelaide in October. The event will feature some of the greenest cars around including hybrids, electric cars and solar-powered vehicles.
Mr Rann believes the event is ideal for the region which had made a huge investment in the car industry and has committed to green cars and renewable energy. He stated that he wanted the race to be a test bed for cars powered by renewable, sustainable energy and their coming of age.
