Could Britain be number one green car maker?

According to a report in The Sun, Britain is on the verge of becoming the leading European country in the manufacturing of green cars.

Its report outlines that both Nissan and General Motors are on the brink of deciding to build zero emission cars in the UK that will not only safeguard British jobs but will also create new work if electric cars sales take off as expected around the world.

According to Nissan, it will decide within two-three months on where to build its electric car for Europe with the firm’s plant in Sunderland the favourite to manufacture around 50,000 cars a year. Nissan has also made a commitment to become the world leader in electric cars with a spokesman pointing out that Sunderland has both the capabilities and the quality levels to meet its expectations.

In addition, General Motors bosses are said to be close to a decision regarding bringing an electric car model to Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory with the Ampera Hybrid seen as crucial to its survival.
