A report in The Scotsman states that £1.8million will be pumped into a trial of electric vehicles in Glasgow.
The Technology Strategy Board, which is part of the UK government’s Department of Business, has awarded the grant to Allied Mobility, which is based in the Scottish city, as part of its low-carbon vehicle programme.
The terms of the project will see 30 Peugeot 207s and 10 Peugeot Eurobuses all fitted with an electric battery. The vehicles will then be used by a number of public sector organisations.
The pioneering pilot scheme will be lead by Dundee-based Axeon, which will develop the batteries, along with Glasgow City Council, Strathclyde University, ScottishPower and Scottish Enterprise. The trial is expected to last for two years.
We’ll have more details in our news section as they become available.
