Electric car manufacturing coming to London?

evstores today announced at Britain’s biggest green consumer lifestyle show, UK Aware (www.ukaware.com) that they have commenced feasibility studies to bring manufacturing to London.  The first production vehicles could be rolling off the assembly line before the end of 2010.

Responding to the calls from both the Prime Minister and London Mayor Boris Johnson to develop a ‘low carbon’ economy in the UK, evstores is now working with partners to bring the final assembly of a lightweight all-electric city car to London.

Says Julian Wilford: ‘it makes a lot of sense to assemble electric cars where they are sold and of course London is already a leading market for electric city cars. With the encouragement and vision of Boris Johnson we think that manufacturing in London may be a real opportunity. It will create much needed jobs and build new ‘green’ capabilities ahead of the Olympics in 2012.’

Electric vehicle assembly is a clean and efficient process without the large infrastructure, machinery or hazardous material handling associated with conventional car production.  A number of London sites are under consideration for the creation of a carbon neural vehicle assembly facility.
