Carmakers agree universal electric car plug

Leading carmakers and energy companies have reached an agreement on a common ‘’ to recharge electric , according to the German publication Die Welt.

The new three point, 400-volt plug which would allow for electric cars to be charged in minutes, was unveiled at technology fair in Hanover today.

An agreement between Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, General Motors, Fiat, Toyota and Mitsubishi and energy companies including RWE, Eon and EDF among others could see the introduction of a common plug making it possible to further the network of charging points across the UK and elsewhere.

No timeline for the introduction of the plug has yet been specified while talks among the concerned parties continue.
