Three races down and three pairs of winners – competition is clearly heating up in the Michelin Green X Challenge.
The first west coast stop for the challenge saw the Ferran Acura LMP1 prototype and the Flying Lizard Porsche GT2 scoop top honours in the shortest event of the 2009 American Le Mans Series.
The cars that enter the race are scored for the Michelin Green X Challenge based on performance, environmental impact and fuel efficiency as part of a scientific formula created by the US Department of Energy along with the US Environmental Protection Agency and SAE International.
For Ferran-Acura it was its first ever American Le Mans Series victory as well as its first in the Michelin Green X Challenge. The team joins Audi Sports North America and Lowe’s Fernandez Racing Acura as the prototype winners to date.
Porsche meanwhile followed Corvette Racing and Rahal Letterman BMW as GT winners with Paul Ritchie, President of Porsche Motorsport North America, praising the efforts involved in making the car more aerodynamic and fuel efficient while adding to its on-track speed.
