First it was its taxis… then its police force… and now it could be the turn of the residents of New York City to embrace the green car revolution.
The city will survey 2,000 motorists as it attempts to determine whether it can tempt drivers over to electric cars.
According a report in The New York Post, the Economic Development Corp will be soliciting bids for a ‘fast track study’ on the set of levers to encourage electric vehicle adoption.
The city is hoping that the results will be revealed by the end of September and that any electric vehicle facilities established in the city would be open to the public. An adviser to Mayor Bloomberg is quoted as saying that this goes beyond city vehicles and if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing in the private sector.
Meanwhile, the city’s Street Condition Observation Unit will use 10 Mini Es in its work.
