Google goes green

It’s probably the most famous name on the internet – yes even ahead of TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk – and now Google is going green. Kind of!

Its Google StreetView, which is usually built from images captured by a car driving around with a multi-directional camera, will be replaced on the roads where cars can’t go by a special StreetView Trike that only specially trained Google employees and contractors can ride.

The trike will begin its journey in Genoa, Italy, and then is expected to move on to Britain later this summer. Due to operational factors such as light levels and the weather, the trike will only remain in the UK for a limited time with images stitched together and then made available in StreetView on Google Maps.

It is hoped that the StreetView system may expand its green connections with more alternative fuel vehicles or just alternative vehicles to cover the ground that cars cannot reach.
