So which car manufacturer will be the first to make a serious impact in the electric car market? Perhaps one of the big guns, such as the Renault-Nissan Alliance? Perhaps an emerging name like Tesla Motors? Or maybe even a complete unknown?
Chances are you’ve never heard of South Korean company CT&T Co Ltd unless you live in the country itself – and if you have, we’re seriously impressed – but now the manufacturer is planning to enter the US market with a low-speed electric vehicle designed for cities and gated communities.
The outfit aims to manufacture vehicles in the USA and employ as many as 2,600 workers there by 2014. The company, which was founded by former Hyundai executive Yung Gi Lee, hopes to establish headquarters and a manufacturing facility in one of Alabama, California, Georgia, North Carolina or South Carolina.
It has set its sights on marketing its small c-Zone utility vehicle for commercial and government fleets by the fourth quarter with prices ranging from $8,000-$16,000. It also plans to manufacture batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles that will be used by other automakers within the USA.
