Truck fleet bids to drive down emissions

It’s not easy for truck fleets to go green, but McBurney, one of Northern Ireland’s largest independently owned transport operators, is certainly making a spirited effort.

The company has placed an order with Volvo dealer Dennison Commercials of Ballyclare for 50 FH460 tractor units. The tractor units are boosted by Volvo’s telematics system and their fuel efficient I-Shift automated transmission. All of them comply with the latest Euro 5 emission specification.

In addition, McBurney has also ordered an FH16-700, which is also Euro 5 compliant and is the first to be ordered on either side of the Irish border or in the mainland UK.

McBurney is now working closely with on the manufacturer’s FuelWatch programme having been part of the Dynafleet for the last five years. The Dynafleet, which is fitted into around 95 per cent of McBurney’s 250 vehicle fleet, delivers environmental reports as well as information on vehicle and driver performance.

The new trucks are scheduled to be delivered in September and should operate in Ballymena and Liverpool.
