News in brief: Lexus orders up

Good news for the forthcoming as pre-orders smash the firm’s monthly sales target.

According to reports in The Nikkei, the Toyota Motor Corporation has received about 1,500 pre-orders for the vehicles – that’s around three times more than its initial target.

It marks continued success for the Japanese manufacturer on home turf. Earlier this week we reported how the Toyota Prius had topped the sales chart in Japan (see earlier post). In fact sales orders are at such a premium that it now takes eight months for delivery after placing an order which may encourage some customers to consider switching to the HS.

According to the report, around 90 per cent of orders for the Lexus RX, which was released in April, are for hybrid models – further emphasising the surging popularity of green cars in Japan.

This in sharp contrast to the USA however, where hybrid versions of the Lexus RX represented just 7.2 per cent of all RX models in June.
