Mercedes working on electric sports car

German car maker -AMG, the performance brand of Benz Cars, is developing a battery electric version of the SLS AMG sports car, which is now in vehicle testing.

The electric drive vehicle has four electric motors with a combined output of 392kW and maximum torque of 880Nm. No figures about its range have yet been released.

The electric gull-wing model is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in around four seconds, which puts it on the same level as the conventional SLS AMG. The four motors appear near the wheels which reduces the unsprung masses compared to wheel-hub motors. By using an intelligent all-wheel drive system, there is no loss in torque or vectoring.

The vehicle uses a modular, liquid cooled 400V 48kWh high voltage lithium-ion battery pack with pack modules located in front of the firewall, in the centre tunnel and behind the seats. This offers a number of advantages including a low centre of gravity and a balanced weight distribution.

According to Daimler, the purely electric drive version was factored in early at the concept phase.

Why Mercedes need 0-100km/h in 4sec? For EVs we need a fresh attitude, not a vulgar remake of a heavy, large vehicle with some dramatic & agressive design!
