Miami commissioner leads by example

Some might call the idea a little insular, but no-one could accuse Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff of not practising what he preaches.

Recently the commissioner urged Miami natives to ‘buy American’ and now he has traded in his foreign car – a Smart car – for a new Fusion Hybrid.

The commissioner bought the vehicle after hosting a Buy American, Go Green event on June 30 with the Ford Motor Company in an effort to encourage Americans to look at home-grown car manufacturers and their green vehicles. Ford’s most fuel efficient cars were featured at the event and demonstrations were given.

According to Sarnoff, once he got behind the wheel of the Fusion Hybrid, he knew he had to make the switch. He believes that Ford is leading the way in making quality, fuel efficient green vehicles after President Barack Obama’s administration dedicated $5.9billion to Ford in a government-industry partnership to build green cars.

The commissioner is now encouraging the city to consider Ford for its next fleet purchase and has said he plans to print and distribute “Go Green, Buy American” bumper stickers throughout Miami.
