Hydrogen fuel company in ASA reprimand

A company supplying retro-fit hydrogen systems for cars has come under fire this week after the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled that an advertisement for its product was misleading.

An advert placed in an unnamed magazine boasted that the ‘Hydrogen Fuel Saver’ could supply greater power using less fuel, reduce vehicle emissions and create less pollutants.

Waterboost, the manufacturer of the Hydrogen Fuel Saver, said they had tested it on an old Volkswagen Golf car, increasing its miles to galloon to 60mpg as opposed to 30mpg without the devise.

However ASA ruled that the product had not been tested rigorously enough to substantiate the claims made in the ad.

The Waterboost system generates hydrogen and oxygen from water which is subsequently fed into an existing petrol or diesel engine to increase fuel efficiency, the company claims.

Without sufficient test data to substantiate the claim, the advertisement broke rules over environmental claims made in adverts, and ASA has instructed the company that the ad must not appear again in its current form.
