Toyota to introduce new hybrids

Electrified vehicles may increase their share of the worldwide market much quicker than many of us expected as manufacturers line up to introduce new vehicles with an electric spin.

Having enjoyed significant success with the Toyota Prius, the Toyota Motor Corporation is now lining up a new medium-sized hybrid saloon car for introduction later this year according to reports in Kyodo News.

Known as the SAI, the vehicle will use the same basic structure as the Lexus HS250h, which was recently introduced in Japan and has vastly exceeded early sales expectations. The difference between the SAI and the HS250h, will be the exterior and interior designs – the price of the SAI is also expected to fall somewhere between the HS250h and the Prius.

Meanwhile, Toyota is also reportedly planning to introduce a minivan hybrid as early as 2011 and will release a less pricy compact hybrid based on the Vitz around the same time.
