New Citroen model will slash emissions

Another day, another announcement of a hot new green car model headed to the Frankfurt Motor Show.

This time it’s Citroen that takes the spotlight as it reveals plans to unveil its DS3 Supermini, which is available with a choice of Euro V power plants consisting of two HDi diesel units and three BMW co-developed petrol engines.

The diesel engines – a 90bhp and a 110bhp – are fitted with a diesel particulate filter, while the three petrol engines – Vti 95, VTi 120 and THP 150 – boast either five or six speed manual gearboxes.

The manufacturer has concentrated on reducing the weight of the vehicle, which is already one of the smallest in its class standing just 1.46m high, 1.71m wide and 3.95m long. Despite this it offers the largest boot size in its class at 285litres with an additional load capacity achieved when the 60:40 split fold rear bench is tumbled forward.

The most notable achievement however, is the reduction in fuel consumption and emission levels. The two HDi engines deliver emissions of just 99g/km while the petrol engines will emit between 136g/km and 160g/km.
