It may look the same but it’s definitely different – Toyota Motor has made a number of technology and styling changes to the Lexus LS600h.
The full hybrid, which was first introduced in 2006, has a host of new features including a new ECO mode that modifies the throttle action and performance of the air conditioning to support fuel efficient driving. As the movement of the accelerator pedal and system output is controlled, response to aggressive inputs is reduced improving fuel economy and allowing for a smoother drive.
When the outside temperature ranges above 20°C, the air conditioning system selects its air recirculation mode reducing power consumption with the blower airflow reduced when set to high, while the operation of the electrical heating system is also stopped. The system also avoids signalling for an increase in engine speed to boost power when idle.
The revised Lexus LS600h also includes redesigned seating, new brakes and updated equipment. The hybrid system’s battery has been repackaged into two sections of six and 14 modules with overall size reduced and more luggage space created in the boot.
Amazingly the vehicle has also been revised to meet Euro 5 standards without altering its performance. Its CO2 emissions are 219g/km with fuel consumption at 25.3mpg; while the vehicle can race from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds.
